AIDS in South Africa - The plight of mothers and children

South Africa has the highest number of people living with HIV in the world. Of the estimated 5.3 million people with HIV/AIDS, 3.1 million are women. Without access to life-saving treatment and medical care, mothers are dying leaving behind a growing number of orphaned children. There are currently 1.2 million South African children that have been orphaned due to AIDS. Millions more children are suffering, living with terminally ill parents who are unable to work or care for them.

Our Mission

The PositiveMoms Foundation was established to help HIV-positive mothers in South Africa to access life-saving treatment and medical care. By improving the life expectancy of HIV-positive mothers, we can prevent children from being prematurely orphaned and make a lasting impact on their lives.

What We Do

The PositiveMoms Foundation works at the local level to design programs that respond to the unique needs of HIV-positive mothers, ensuring their ability to access life-saving treatment and health services. To learn more about the projects we are currently funding click here.
